Customizing Your Site Footer

The footer is a crucial element of your website, appearing at the bottom of every page and typically containing important information like contact details, copyright notices, navigation links, and social media connections. DigiFlash’s Full Site Editing capabilities give you complete control over your footer design, allowing you to create custom footers that perfectly match your site’s needs.

Accessing the Footer Editor

To customize your site footer, navigate to Appearance → Editor from your WordPress dashboard. In the Site Editor, locate the Template Parts section in the left sidebar and click on it. You’ll see a list of available template parts, including your footer.

Click on the footer template part to open it in the editor. The current footer design will appear, showing all blocks such as copyright text, navigation menus, social media icons, and any other elements included in the footer.

Editing Footer Elements

Once the footer is open in the editor, you can click on any block to modify it. Common footer elements include paragraph blocks for copyright text, navigation blocks for footer menus, social links blocks for connecting to your social media profiles, and column blocks for organizing content into multiple sections.

You can change text content by clicking on any paragraph or heading block and typing new content. The navigation menu block in the footer works the same way as in the header, allowing you to add, remove, or rearrange menu items. You can adjust colors, typography, spacing, and alignment for any element to match your design preferences.

DigiFlash footers typically use column layouts to organize information into sections. You can adjust the number of columns, change their width distribution, and add or remove columns as needed. Each column can contain different types of content, from simple text to images, buttons, or custom HTML.

To add new blocks to your footer, click the + button in the top toolbar or within the editor canvas. Popular footer additions include contact forms, logos, address information, phone numbers, email addresses, newsletter signup forms, or custom widgets for specific functionality.

Creating Multiple Footers

DigiFlash allows you to create as many custom footers as you need for different sections of your website. To create a new footer, go to Appearance → Editor → Template Parts and click the + icon to add a new template part.

Select Footer as the template part type and give it a descriptive name, such as “Landing Page Footer” or “Minimal Footer.” This new footer starts blank, giving you complete freedom to design it from scratch using any blocks you want.

You can duplicate an existing footer to use as a starting point. Simply open the footer you want to copy, click the three dots menu in the top toolbar, and select the duplicate option. This creates a copy that you can then modify without affecting the original footer.

Using Different Footers on Different Templates

The flexibility of Full Site Editing in DigiFlash extends to using different footers on different templates. To assign a custom footer to a specific template, navigate to Appearance → Editor → Templates and select the template you want to modify.

Once the template is open, scroll down to locate the footer template part at the bottom. Click on it to reveal the block settings panel on the right side. In the settings, you’ll find an option to choose which footer to use. Click the dropdown menu to see all available footers and select the one you want to apply to this template.

This flexibility allows you to have a detailed footer with multiple columns on your homepage, a simplified footer on landing pages, a conversion-focused footer on sales pages, and a comprehensive footer with site maps on your blog. Each template can use the footer that best serves its purpose.

Creating Custom Templates with Custom Footers

You can create entirely custom templates that combine your custom footers with specific page layouts. To create a custom template, go to Appearance → Editor → Templates and click the + icon.

WordPress will ask you to name your template and choose what type it should be. You can create templates for pages, single posts, archives, or completely custom template types. Once created, you can build the entire template structure, including which footer template part to use at the bottom.

After designing your custom template with its designated footer, you can assign this template to specific pages. When editing a page in the WordPress editor, look for the Template option in the page settings panel on the right side. Click the dropdown menu to see all available templates, including your custom ones, and select the template you want to use.

Managing Footer Variations

As you create multiple footers for your site, keeping them organized is essential. Use clear, descriptive names for each footer template part so you can easily identify which footer serves which purpose. Names like “Main Footer,” “Simple Footer,” “E-commerce Footer,” or “Contact Page Footer” make it simple to select the right footer when editing templates.

You can preview how different footers look on your site before publishing changes. The Site Editor provides a live preview, and you can navigate through different pages to see how the footer appears in context with your content.

Styling Your Footer

DigiFlash’s Global Styles system affects your footer along with the rest of your site. Colors, typography, and spacing set in Global Styles apply to footer elements, ensuring visual consistency. However, you can override these global settings for individual footer elements if you want the footer to have a distinct appearance.

To access block-specific styling, select any block within your footer and use the settings panel on the right to adjust colors, typography, dimensions, and spacing. These changes apply only to that specific instance, giving you precise control over your footer’s appearance.

The Site Editor allows you to add background colors or images to your footer, apply padding and margins, adjust the footer’s width, and control how the footer behaves on different screen sizes. You can create distinctive footer sections by adding borders, using gradient backgrounds, or applying shadow effects.

DigiFlash ensures all footer designs remain responsive and fast-loading regardless of customization. The footer automatically adapts to mobile devices, stacking columns vertically on smaller screens while maintaining readability and usability.
